The green architecture is just one of the branches of the green movement. The green architecture is the practice of designing and creating buildings while taking into consideration the environmental aspect and the sustainable development. In other words, the green architecture deals with creating buildings which cause less damage to the environment and which are more beneficial from an energy consumption point of view. The green design architecture has certain advantages over the regular architecture but you should know that it has some disadvantages as well.

There are certain characteristics which are common to the green design architecture and in what follows I am going to present them to you. First of all the green architecture tries to minimize the space required for a building. Usually the large houses or buildings consume lots of energy because of their size. Because of the increased size, the buildings require lots of materials in order to be constructed. In order to prevent this from happening, the architects opt to design much smaller houses which will not cause too much waste both in energy and in materials.

Almost all the green houses or green buildings use alternative sources of energy. There are many green energy sources, as I am sure that you know, but the most popular source of energy is the solar energy. The reason for this is the fact that everyone has access to the solar energy. There are two ways of obtaining the solar energy. The first method is the direct method, the photovoltaic one which stores the solar energy and turns it into electricity. The indirect method uses the solar energy to heat the water which is then used into electricity. There are various benefits when using the solar energy, the first one being that is clean and the second one that you will have to pay less money for the bills.

When designing a green building, the architect will most likely thing about conserving water. There is a big problem with the water nowadays, because it is wasted each day, and most of the waste is done by  toilets. Luckily there are various systems which can be used to save water. For example the low-flow shower heads are great as they provide the same water pressure but use far less water than regular showers. There are similar devices which can be used for  toilets which will conserve a lot of water.

One of the most important aspects about  green buildings is related to  materials. It is ideal for the materials used to be local and to be natural. The synthetic materials are obtained through toxic processes which are damaging both for the humans and for the environment.
