How To Build A Green Home

Since the state of the environment is getting worse and worse with each year passing, more and more people considered adopting a new and greener lifestyle. The changes which can be made in order to live such a green life are numerous. Some of them are simple, some are more complex but neither change will interfere with your daily comfort.

One of the most obvious and useful changes you can make is related to your home. If you were wondering how to build a green home, then this article is for you as I am going to present you that information.

Some of the devices could use a change. For example the shower and the sinks can be changed; you can use low flow heads for the shower and for the sinks. Lots of water is being wasted each day especially because of the showers or sinks. The low flow heads will provide the same water pressure but by actually using less water then the regular ones. A low flow showerhead will use 1 gallon of water each minute instead of 3.5 gallons which a regular shower uses.

Water is also wasted when flushing the toilet and a great solution for this is the dual flush toilet. The dual flush toilet is more expensive to install but they will pay off in the long run as they will save 6.000 gallons of water each year. As you can tell you will make lots of savings when it comes to paying the bills.

The CFL light bulb is another change which you can make in order to save money and the environment in the process. This type of bulb lasts ten times longer than the regular one and as you can tell, you won’t have to replace it very often. The LED downlight is another choice, as it uses 50% less energy than the regular incandescent light bulb. Buy Energy Star home appliances such as washing machines, TVs, computers and so on. These types of appliances use far less energy than the regular ones but they cost more than their regular counterparts.

The same goes with the cleaning or personal product. Buy the ones which have the “green certificate” because they are better both for you and for the environment. You can even make these types of products yourself which means that you will also save money. Vinegar, baking soda, these are just some of the components of a home-made cleaning product. The regular ones contain certain harmful toxins which can damage your health and which can pollute the environment. These are just some of the tips you can use if you are interested in the topic “how to build a green home”.
