NYC Green Buildings
The craze of going green is in full swing and it is spreading in almost all areas. Green vehicles, green jobs, green pets (yes you read that right), and green buildings. The movement is taking place throughout the entire world, as us people have realized that the only ones that have to benefit from this, besides the environment of course, is ourselves. One of the most important places which adopted this new movement is “The Big Apple”, “The city that never sleeps”, NYC. Yes, I am talking about New York City. Green buildings sprung all over New York’s districts, sectors, and boroughs. Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, State Island, and Bronx, each went green.
The city officials are very proud of this accomplishment as their main aim is to make New York City the leading green building city in America. Their aim is to incorporate as many green buildings in the city as possible and to discover the structural changes that need to be made in the city in order for this to happen. The city officials also have big plans regarding the health of New York, as by 2030 they desire to reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions by 30%.

In this article I am going to present you some of the most important NYC green buildings. Straight out of Midtown Manhattan we have the world famous Times Tower. The headquarters moved in 2007 and it quickly became one of the symbols of green buildings in the world. The building was awarded with the LEED Gold prize and the most intersecting thing is that the ones responsible for its construction did not even had the purpose of winning this prize. In case you did not know, LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Next on our New York must-see green buildings list, is the Riverhouse. The building is very new and it is an apartment complex. It is located in the Rockefeller Park. Battery Park City’s green development rules were followed thoroughly when the building was built and it is also an USGBC LEED qualified building.

The Office of Emergency Management headquarters was one of the first buildings in New York City that received the LEED certification. The building is new, being recently open in 2006 and it contributed a lot to the development of green movement in New York City.
The Morissania Homes complex is also worth mentioning as this is the first building in New York to receive the LEED for Homes certification. The complex is located in Bronx, and as the other buildings mentioned in this article, it was recently built. The building has a major positive impact on the nature as its creation diverted more than 95% of construction debris from landfills. These are some of the most important NYC green buildings.
