The areas conducive to install wind power plants depends on the wind speed (minimum 15 km / h) in the region throughout the year, altitude (greater height means greater wind speed, wind due to low viscosity), terrain and temperature (low temperature require liquid lubrication with low freezing point, and even more resistant materials heaters wind turbine).

Depending on the area where is installed an Aeolian power plant, there are three types of locations:

1.      On the shore- wind turbines placed at three or more miles inside the coast. The location takes into account the effect of accelerating the mass of the air over an obstacle (in this case the shore). Among the disadvantages are included the higher cost of construction, the location, the maintenance (especially those placed in salt water, which has a highly corrosive effect). If the distances from the shore are long enough, the wind power plants that are placed offshore can be connected directly to a high voltage power installation.
