Since the green movement is in full swing you might have heard lots of new “green terms”: green buildings, green materials, green jobs, and green homes. If you were wondering what are green homes then this article is for you.
So what are green homes? A green home or a green building as a matter of fact is a construction which does not have a negative impact for the environment during the process of its construction, its lifespan and during the process of its destruction. The construction of a green home should require far less energy than the construction of a regular home and a green home should require less energy during its lifespan.

A green home should be built with green materials and by green materials I mean the products which pollute very little the atmosphere or they don’t pollute at all. These products are usually either recyclable or made out of recycled materials. If you would like to build the house yourself make sure that you buy local materials which do not require long transportation. It is essential for the materials to be from local places because if they aren’t the transport will cause lots of pollution.
If you desire to build a green home you should know that in many cases the alternate sources of energy are preferred in the detriment of the regular ones. The alternate sources will require more money to be installed but on the long run they will be worth it because you won’t have to pay too much money for the energy bills.

There are various alternate sources of energy you can choose from: sun, water, wind, and so on. The benefit of these sources, besides the fact that they will help you save money in time, is the fact that they do not pollute the environment. The solar power is usually the preferred source of energy by most of the people because it is the easiest to get access too, but the wind is close on the second place when it comes to preferences.
Some of the green homes have a green roof which is beneficial for several reasons. One of the most obvious reasons is the fact that it reduces heating by adding thermal resistance value. It also reduces cooling and it is great as a mean to protect your house from the phonic pollution. It also protects the environment by reducing the amount of storm water run-off. In order to make your home green it is advisable to use green appliances which will help you to save energy and in the same time money. You can buy green TVs, green computers, green washing machines, and so on. There are many alternatives when it comes to living the green life.
